@Anime_Ima Social Media

So Jay has already started an Anime-Ima! group on facebook and Blazerfrost assisted in getting our twitter page up and running. Both are currently still pretty sparse on content, so this thread is to help us improve on that.

It's been a rather hectic past couple of weeks with Jason and Jay working round the clock on the 1st issue which if the rumor mill is to be trusted is very close to completion. :D
Now that the hard work has been done the only thing left to do is to get the word out. So we need to get some activity buzzing.

  • So any suggestions on what should tweeted or displayed on these accounts would be greatly appreciated.
  • If anyone could discuss the benefits of a facebook "Fan Page" versus a group.
    (I haven't used facebook in ages and am not familiar with its new functions)
  • Are there any other social media type sites we should look into?
    Perhaps youtube for when we start linking videos in the mag?

Twitter I have no clue about as I don't use it myself.

Facebook pages are a relatively new thing and most of the 'Pages' (mainly discussion forums etc) have migrated to 'Groups' in the meantime. The main difference for me is you have to get invited to a Facebook 'Group', or place a request to 'be added' on the 'Group' which then has to be approved. Anyone can send out invites on a group to all or selected friends they have on Facebook. (Another thing to check is your 'settings' - by default it sends you an e-mail every time someone posts or replies in the group which can get a bit overwhelming at times - best to opt out of this - you'll still get your little 'red' Facebook notifications on your main Facebook page in any event when someone makes a new post and be informed of replies to a topic, if you posted a reply, liked a post, but there is an option to unsubscribe from a particular post & replies)
As for how much creative freedom a page vs a group allows you I'm not certain.

YouTube sounds like a great idea, but they can be very hard on copyright infringement, so ensure that you are linking to original content.

The facebook group that i have created is OPEN so anyone can see everything.
Unfortunately requests are still required to join a group but anyone can agree to it.

Thanks Jay.
The 'Join us on Facebook' Image/link by JG seems to point at the mobile version of the Facebook group...
Is there a link to the Web (PC) based version by any chance?

Fixed the facebook link, I hope it works.
(Sorry I posted it from work, where I can only access facebook mobile)

p.s. We're gona allow anyone to join the group right?

And I will be looking into creating a fan page if thats ok with everyone.
...
This is what I found:
http://www.searchenginejournal.com/facebook-group-vs-facebook-fan-page-whats-better/7761/
  • 1. Unlike groups, fan pages are visible to unregistered people and are thus indexed (important for reputaion management, for example);
  • 2. Unlike pages, groups allow to send out “bulk invite” (you can easily invite all your friends to join the group while with pages you will be forced to drop some invites manually). Groups are thus better for viral marketing, meaning that any group member can also send bulk invites to the friends of his.

To conclude:
  • Pages are generally better for a long-term relationships with your fans, readers or customers;
  • Groups are generally better for hosting a (quick) active discussion and attracting quick attention.

Right, so a request to the more graphically talented Anime Ima peeps out there. We need an Anime Ima logo to accompany social media posts and stuff. Something simple that stands out and easily identified. It can just be a logo or a whole header/banner what ever you like.

The successful canidate will recieve my gratitude and a picture of the favorite chocolate via PM. Thanks.

Twitter is a great way to get social fast and attract new users to posts in the forum, and get to reading the magazine. Its also a quicker way to reach a targeted local and global audience. Tweet more pls. :D
