Pretty cheap too. R50 per annum per .co.za domain to register.  Check out http://www.cozareg.com/index.php

Cape Town - For individuals who find it complex to register co.za domain names, a company has developed an automated system of registrations that promises to make the process painless.

"I wanted to make it easier for people to register domain names and to manage domain names," CozaReg.com founder Rian Visser told News24.

The current system to register co.za domain names involves downloading a text file, and e-mailing it to Uniforum, the registration authority. Coreg.com automates the process, but Visser rejected suggestions that it was unsafe.

"You can only make changes if you are the owner of a site. It's much easier for technical people to update domain names."

He said that the site primarily catered to non-technical people who would like to register their domain names to use for e-mail and small business owners who perhaps wanted to create a website at a later date.

Some internet service providers may offer domain registration services to their clients, but this CozaReg service would suit those who prefer to do it themselves.

The website, which was launched in early February, is free to the public and includes services such as checking to see domain availability on the whois server.

That's weird, and I can't understand the business model - R50 is what it costs to do it directly through Uniforum, so there's no profit here....

I think it's ease of use Jacques. They basically created a nice user friendly GUI which I'm assuming generates the text file used by Uniforum as an application form which one would otherwise have to edit and complete by hand.

Compared to ISP's for instance it's cheaper.
Example : www.paradigmsolotions.co.za

• 1 Domain @ R89.00
• 3 Domains @ R199.00
• 5 Domain @ R305.00
• 10 Domains @ R600.00
• 25 Domains @ R1450.00
• 50 Domains @ R2800.00

Perhaps they also have some discount structure in place with Uniforum or a similar organization?

Yes, I get all that. But I've always gone directly through Uniforum, and paid R50. Sure, this is easier, but that means they are offering a service, adding value, and you'd normally expect to pay for that. Here, you're not (if you are prepared to do some text editing). But the business model confusion I pointed out is based on something else entirely:

CozaReg.com need to make profit. If they are paying Uniforum the standard R50, then they don't make profit. They are just a charity, helping end-users to not be ripped off by ISP's.

Yes I agree the business model is somewhat confusing, unless CoReg.com have managed to negotiate a discount with Uniforum.
Are there any other registrars handling .co.za domain name registrations perhaps at a cheaper rate? I don't know...
Look they are definitely not a candidate for advertising revenue as far as I'm concerned.

So your point is well taken.

I think this is a greatly simplified user interface for those who struggle with Uniforum's ticket-based system.
The fact that this chap is charging R50 means his service is a convenience for the technologically-challenged folks he is not making any profit from the domain registration per se.

Many, many people curse the Uniforum ticket system, saying it belongs in Noah's Ark, etc, etc... and many IT folks claim its high time Uniforum went to a fancy web based system much like any US domain registrar. Since Uniforum are unwilling to do that, it was bound to happen that someone would do something like this.

I will still continue to use the tickets, because I've preformatted them for the many domains I am in control of, for my company so that makes it easier for me and for the accounts lady whom I've trained in this regard.

Hi everyone

I am the founder of Cozareg.com.

The website was developed with the purpose of helping anyone in registering and managing domain names. Yes, the main aim is to make domain name registration more affordable to those who do not have the tech knowledge in registering co.za domains.

Our new member section is also aimed to make thinks easier for users to manage domains. Here members can update domains by simply clicking a link. You will get a prepopulated form with your domain's info and from where you can make the changes. There are also  many other features.

Registered users will also have new domain registration application form prepopulated with their information each time they log into their account.

We currently only have ads on the website, which generates little income. We do not make any money from Uniform at all.

We just thought that if Uniform could not automate their system in 22 years, we can at least try to do so ourselves as far as we can.

Thanks for dropping by to clarify. So it really is just a public good/charity - although presumably it will be a carrot to lure people to future services that do make money, ie. a loss-leader.

Hi Jacques

Yes, this will be a free service. I have no plans of turning this into a paid service, whatsoever.
