Can I start (our hopefully successful) general conversations topic by asking a question? Guess I already did... ;D

How is everyones feeling so far with this rather new board? See we have some slow activity this week and our last member to register was at Thursday - and she didn't even come say hallo :'(. Is there anything any member feel we can do to get these new members to start posting at least so we can grow the conversations?

So far I personally think that the little discussions we are having makes up for lack of more posts simply due to the quality.

Quality over quantity is good but not necessarily what you want in a forum. I guess it's a balancing act of growth while trying to avoid the real weirdos.

I'm still unclear as to why and how I am here, but it seems an interesting place nevertheless.

I'm not sure how to get people to post really, offering sex usually works doesn't it?

Then again - if you consider the weirdo's offering sex online would be a stupid move  :P
You are here because you need to be here. That's all you should know - and because I enjoy reading what you have to say. That should suffice as enough reason should it not?

True, consider me reconsidered.

Is a reason even needed? I just am, like that yellow duck floating in the middle of the Atlantic ocean.

I have heard it from two different quarters to date that persons are experiencing problems with the registration process, mainly to do with the password policy.

For me it was fine because I had LastPass generate a strong password, but I firstly tried one of my 'stock' passwords which would not be accepted.
I am not saying that this is a major player in the events, but perhaps we should look at relaxing the password policy?

I am very happy with the board. It works well and it pretty good. The content is coming up nicely.

The only tricky business appears to get awareness, as I've had very little response from my expeditions out on other forums in an attempt to recruit new members.

Sorry to hear that Bruce. Hope you feel better soon.

Yes that password issue was bothering me a bit, it was maybe a bit too strict.
This was first mentioned to me by a friend.

I invited Max Kaizen here earlier who would be a valuable addition to this forum.
She got as far as registering but then encountered issues during the login process, with her password being rejected.
Otherwise we may have seen some posts from here by now.

I'll follow up with her in a day or two on facebook to see if she has had a chance to make her way back here and whether she is still encountering any issues.
Nothing that cannot be fixed though and the relaxation of the password policy should make it easier for new members to sign up in the future.

She is very involved with the online community with her own popular blog, the 27Wiki blogging dinner events and some involvement with The Daily Maverick as well a regularly posting very interesting links and tweets.

Jacques I mentioned you to her (I hope that was not too presumptions of me) and she confirmed that she remembers you well from varsity days.

As mentioned earlier quality content will be a big driving factor and I reckon we just have to be patient.
I have been hesitant until now to promote the board too heavily and send out too many invites yet, because I would like the content to perhaps grow a bit more.
First impressions can be crucial in attracting new membership.
