Multichoice DSD1131 - Technical Advisory

Status: Current
Affected: All DSD1131 STB
Severity: Moderate
Date: December 2011

Problem: Multichoice upgraded the DSD1131 firmware in December 2011, the firmware also updated the IRDETO crypto, which is now somehow incompatible with the pre-married smartcards on these decoders. This causes breakup on the audio of ALL DSTV channels, which is more pronounced when listening to the DMX channels.
Do not waste your time calling the helpdesk or Multichoice call centre as they "are not aware of it" and will tell you your dish is faulty, your home theater is faulty, etc...

Solution: Replacement of the smartcard is necessary, because the smartcard is paired or "married" to the decoder, this operation needs to be performed at an accredited Multichoice outlet.

I had to fight Multichoice via Hellopeter.com to get answers, as well as phoning around and several Google searches.
They eventually told me the truth after I found an official confirmation on their DSTV forums by wasting three hours searching.
