Cool spiff. Thanks for that link. Nice workaround,
Still does not solve the DRM and other associated issues yet though...

yeah will do for now, one day someone will crack it and then we can haul out all our stored 1tb Hdd's and transfer them to our media players :)

thats what I like about the internet - there is always someone out there who can do it better than the so called pro's  :P

SD PVR by MonoChoice can definitely have its hard disk changed... :)

Its encrypted with 3DES... I have some people in  my group working on that, its slow going because there's so much other more exciting stuff to hack it seems.

Hi There

Thanks for responding. The DVD recorder is an LG DR 389, bought at Hi-Fi Corp if that helps. Its great news to hear that someone is trying to beat the Multichoice guys.

Any help in this dilemma would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with the hack.

Thanks again Jason

OK read your post now... its the same model as the other guy who is struggling.
I will acquire one of these and then develop an additional hack. Can you wait 2-3 months for me to do it? (Reason for delay: am busy with a large manufacturing order at present)

I bow to all hackers without them the internet would be boring! I bought my dstv decoder outright and I loathe not been able to modify or copy the media to my media player   IMO no different to buying a DVD and watching it a zillion times at home! My LG RH1999H gives me the option to copy content to DVD if I want to make space on the Hdd. pity I can't get any firmware upgrades for it  :( as it does not play the new formats now, soon it will as useless as a 286 pc running dos3.3  :D

Thanks :)

Hopefully later this year we'll have a solution for the HD PVR.. I am going to acquire a logic analyzer to try and sniff the encryption key in memory while the PVR executes and is connected to the DSTV service. But that's a last resort!

The Standard Definition copy flag hacking is a priority though!

Thanks Jason

I will gladly wait a few months for a solution.

Its great to know that there are people in this world that are willing to devote their time and energy to helping those that havent got the knowledge to beat the corporates themselves. If I could I would. May your knowledge and fortune increase exponentially.  :)

Thanks in advance

Thanks for the support...
FYI: I belong to h0z, which can be found at hack.org.za

Update: 4/4/11
Now, I've done analysis with the DSD1131... major firmware update, which luckily didn't affect me. But especially on channel 101 (M-NET) I am seeing various digital information inserted into the blanking periods and front and back porch. Macrovision is present aswell on a particular video line.

I'm busy designing a processor to flag these areas, the next step is to build a high-precision sample and hold. Waiting for parts I've ordered, to arrive. The sample and hold will then "overwrite" these areas with black level video effectively stripping out the evil at its source.
