Well I had my first experience of it last night and I must admit the whole process was pretty painless.
I found this 'Leaked' version of OS 5.0.0.681 available for download (I had to try a couple of sites before I got a working link going).
Although my BlackBerry is barely 2 months old it was still running a variant of version 4.6 OS.
After checking some forum feedback on that particular OS version and finding the feedback positive, I decided to take the plunge.
There is an excellent
guide available on blackberryos.com including videos on how to back up your existing OS as well as third party apps, before stepping into detail how to proceed with the new installation.
The necessary links are there as well to download a utility
BBSAK (BlackBerry Swiss Army Knife) which is crucial to the whole process.
From there onwards it is basically just a case of following the steps as outlined in the guide.
I must admit I was a bit worried at one point after I had wiped the existing OS off the device...
Nothing like having a phone with no OS and software on it...
But it all turned out well and I really like the new interface as well as the improvement in speed and responsiveness.
They also have a
guide on "How to recover a nuked BlackBerry" should your phone ever become stuck in a 'loop'.
Some really nice resources if you happen to own a Blackberry.
