Alice in Wonderland

Up until yesterday Alice in Wonderland was an unknown yet familiar story to me. I knew about it, and could identify most of the characters and even knew what this fairy tale land should look like. Yet, I never really knew the whole story. Also got it majorly confused with the wizard of oz.

It turns out to be yet another clone of what seems to be what every fantasy novel is about. Some normal person gets bestowed some weird birthright only to be able to slay dragons with their bare hands. Narnia, harry potter, lord of the rings, wizard of oz, never ending story and now this.

Although I managed through the entire movie I must admit spending too much time in the kitchen getting snacks without pausing. I rarely leave pausing a movie and when I do it just means I am not that interested or I know exactly what is going to happen. In this case I think it was due to the latter.

Visual effects makes up for the story, but then again I did not care missing weird and wonderful scenes as I have seen it just the other day on a much grander scale when I went to go watch Avatar.

6/10

Communities tend to be guided less than individuals by conscience and a sense of responsibility. How much misery does this fact cause mankind! It is the source of wars and every kind of oppression, which fill the earth with pain, sighs and bitterness. (Albert Einstein, 1934)

Much as I am a fan of Burton and Depp, ja, not jumping out of bed in a hurry to get this movie. Kritik, if ever you have the time and inclination, try and get hold of The Annotated Alice in Wonderland. The story turns out to be full of interesting (and often complicated) puzzles and jokes in logic and philosophy.

I have a feeling this movie is probably not going to be for me.
I'll wait for the DVD.
Information wants to be free
