Border Security, and the world's ignorance

As a relatively new subscriber to DSTV I recently discovered repeats of old episodes of "Border Security: Australia's Front Line"

I have watched the show mostly with great interest, particularly to see how drug runners try and get into their country. Besides the fact that so many of them caught, come via here, but that's a debate for another day.

I know a lot of the regulations, thanks to my wife working in the shipping industry, and my opinion is that the laws are very necessary, especially when it comes to quarantine. Because I am usually not able to catch the episodes on DSTV, due to my son keeping me busy, I went to have a look at what was on YouTube and watch some of the video clips.

Border Security Australia - What do you bring with you when you're going to Australia?

What surprised me a great deal was, the comments that some of the brain donors, the world over, have to say about the people in the video clips. Here and there you will get an intelligent response from someone with 1/2 a brain, but in general, the first thing to come up is to diss Australia, calling it a "backward" country. And if there happens to be black people in the video clip, they sensationalize it by putting ANC style bold text all over the video clip and play the race card.

Then we have comments like these about the actual employee at the airport in the above video clip:
Quote
That officer is smiling because this guy could be her ticket to her job promotion, what a lame bitch!

And then this choice one:

i've lived in Canada, American and m now living in Australia. Like i said to a lot of people, Australia , being a develop western country, still has a lot to learn and catch up with the rest of the world, racial issue is one of them.

I think, what happens in sunny old SA is nothing compared to the rest of the world's idiots who shouldn't have internet access, but do. Actually proves how screwed up the entire world is

I do not fully understand your sentiments Jason. Care to elaborate?
Communities tend to be guided less than individuals by conscience and a sense of responsibility. How much misery does this fact cause mankind! It is the source of wars and every kind of oppression, which fill the earth with pain, sighs and bitterness. (Albert Einstein, 1934)

What I essentially mean is this. Why do uninformed people see it fit to play race cards and call Australia a racist country when they see videos of people having their goods detained by Customs because what they are doing is actually illegal the world over, and they claim that this doesn't happen in their home (United States) country, which is bullshit because it does, even the US is strict with quarantine, as is South Africa, for those who don't know.

If there's one thing I cannot stand, it is racism!

The gist of my argument is we  have so many uninformed people who go onto YouTube and post vitriolic crap like that, it makes me wonder as to how stupid the world has become in spite of the internet.

In South Africa, you need a permit to bring in any wooden article (incl furniture new or 2nd hand), it has to be fumigated. Trust me, I learnt this from my wife and again, when I tried to import a guitar into SA. My only route was to get a reputable dealer to bring it in for me, as it then comes via the high seas with the permits and all that crap done, sorted, finished and klaar.
